Free writing part one.

As soon as we sat down, after a brief introduction, we were straight away given our first task.
After being handed a small slip of paper with the opening line of what we were going to be writing about aimed to prompt our writing we had to write non stop for 10 minutes, with no planning, just write as the ideas came to your head. This was to be the first bit of writing that i had done for about 5 years and i really struggled with getting my head around it, portraying the images and ideas that i had in my head on paper, which wasnt helped by the fact that it was 9.00am in the morning.
The opening line i was given was, "the thing about pigeons", thought stanley, "is.......", so basically my story turned into a massive rant about pigeons. What i had written down after the 10 minutes where up wasnt the most poetic, descriptive story ever and after hearing a few being read out from others in the class it made me feel that i way behind the other students as far as creative writing goes. However after hearing the others it gave me some ideas on how to write descriptively and creatively and hopeful improve my writing and the sessions go on.
This is the short story which i wrote... about pigeons.

“The thing about pigeons”, thought Stanley, “is why do they feel the need to walk extremely slow across roads, dodging traffic and almost causing severe car crashes in the process when they are perfectly able to fly. And why do they have to bop their stupid little heads as they walk, like they are constantly listening to some techno music, it just doesn't make any sense. Also another thing, I don’t think I have ever seen a baby pigeon, with the amount of pigeons you see flooding the city streets you would expect to see the occasional baby pigeon, you only ever see the fully grown, usually harbouring some form of injury or disability, adult pigeons; where do they come from? Pigeons are like homeless people, they're scruffy, smell, eat out of bins and no-one likes them, nobody likes pigeons! They were only useful back the old days when postmen were lazy and got pigeons to deliver their post for them, now they have no use whatsoever, just fly around shitting on things and getting in the way.”

... there's only so much you can write about pigeons, however it was a fun excersize which was completely different from anything i had ever done before, really got my head working and ready for doing some more creative writing.
