One techniques which Gary taught us for character development to really develop all aspects of the character was to basically grill each other, asking questions about the character which you would after and answer and in order to build up a complete character profile.
Sophie was given a secret by Garry and she came in the room as a certain character. Our task was to find out who she was and what her secret was by asking her questions which might reveal clues. After the whole class fired questions at her for about 10 minutes we finally discovered the secret which was, that she had murdered her husband.
The task showed us that by doing such exercises you can really develop a character, as Sophie only knew the tiniest bit of detail about this lady however clearly had an image in her head of what she looked like, her hobbies and job and everything and by asking her these questions she was able to come up with the answers on the spot.
